Blue Portora                                                                Zone 7b-10

Sometimes called "portadora", "portodora", "portidora", or "portore" I which are incorrect.  The correct spelling is "Portora"

There are several versions of Portora that have been created by LariAnn.  This is a result from a cross of Alocasia Odora and Alocasia Portei.  The most common available to the market is the Portora Green version.  The Green version has a more green petioles and the main leaf veins are green.  There is also a Portora Red that as far as I know has never been released.  The Red version's petioles and main veins have a more maroon color.  The Portora Red was to have the name of "Thunder Waves"

Blue Portora is another cross from Aroidia Research.  This is a cross between Alocasia Odora 'azurea' the "Blue Odora" from Yunnan, China and Alocasia Portei.  Blue Portora gets its size from Odora and the waves in the leaves from Portei.  A very fast grower, reaching 7 feet in a single season in the right growing conditions.  You can see as it grows older the blue in the veins starts to show.

This Alocasia is not available to the public yet, so please do not ask.  I was just one of the few luck individuals to get the chance to grow and test this variety.  It may still be a year or two before this on is avaliable to the public.
